WHEN SCENT IS ENERGY

I am often required for custom/bespoke perfumes: the desire of many people to "wear" something unique, which like clothes, behavior and character, distinguish them among a thousand. The joy of building something unique and appreciated is huge, the wealth of acquired olfactory knowledge, immeasurable.

Every person who contacts me is different and different emotions are communicated, energy exchanged ... yes, not only the exchange of views and information, but also exchange of energies.

An organized one to one meeting, a phone call, a Skype connection or writing me an email: the brief emerges suddenly from a word, a moment, an emotion, a sentence and the ingredients begin to line up on the desk or on a list.

Many times there are loved raw materials, favorites, olfactory archetypes that always are in us and in the intimate of people, but when it comes to transform images or emotions in smells suddenly the choice becomes more complex: a sunset, sunrise, air summer rather than winter need a lot more trials that start to take shape roughly.

As well as the tailor tries to draw his initial model, so I try to give shape to my olfactory idea mixing the ingredients that feel appropriate to the request.

There are no styles, rules or established schemes in the construction, only a description, a set of raw materials, imagination and knowledge. In the swirl of ideas that flow as the perfume takes shape, the only thing to which we must hold is the hurry to the result, to verify the hypothesis of the effect imagined ad mixed. A fundamental element in this activity is the maturation of the mixture, the coupling of the ingredients, the fusion of the molecules, which generates net or labile shapes, intensity or weaknesses.

The moods that accompany these moments are intense: happiness and joy when you sense that you're on the well way, the ok’s of the client, his positive comments; disappointment when the result does not meet, does not turn, do not take that the shape I'd like and everything is called into question.

The scents, the smells, the raw materials are my energy, and i exchange it in the best possible way, making myself happy in my job and the people I meet in my path. These intangible molecules allow me to expand my boundaries and the continuous feedback with who I was (a chemist) and what I've become (a perfumer) consolidates all: ENERGY

QUANDO IL PROFUMO E' ENERGIA

Spesso mi vengono richiesti profumi personalizzati: la voglia di tante persone di “indossare” qualcosa di unico, che al pari dei vestiti, portamento e carattere, li distingua in mezzo a mille. La gioia di costruire qualcosa di unico e apprezzato è enorme, la ricchezza di conoscenze olfattive che si acquisisce, incommensurabile.

Ogni persona che mi contatta è diversa e diverse le emozioni comunicate, l’energia scambiata...già, non solo scambio di opinioni e informazioni, ma anche scambio di energie: si organizza un incontro, magari ci si sente con una telefonata o via Skype oppure attraverso una email: il brief emerge all’improvviso, da una parola, un momento, una emozione, una frase e gli ingredienti cominciano ad allinearsi sulla scrivania o su una lista. 

Molte volte ci sono delle materie prime amate, predilette, archetipi olfattivi che accompagnano da sempre e nell’intimo le persone; ma quando si tratta di tramutare immagini o emozioni in odori ecco che la scelta diventa più complessa: un tramonto, un’alba, un’aria estiva piuttosto che invernale necessitano di molte più prove che all’inizio prendono forma rozzamente.

Così come il sarto cerca di disegnare il suo modello iniziale, così io cerco di dare forma alla mia idea olfattiva mescolando gli ingredienti che sento confacenti alla richiesta.

Non ci sono stili, regole o schemi prefissati nella costruzione: solo una descrizione, un insieme di materie prime, immaginazione e conoscenze. Nel turbinio delle idee che sgorgano man mano che il profumo prende forma, l’unica cosa a cui bisogna tenere testa è la fretta del risultato, la verifica delle ipotesi dell’effetto immaginato e mescolato. Elemento fondamentale e per certi versi principale in questa attività è la maturazione della miscela, l’accoppiamento degli ingredienti, la fusione delle molecole, che genera forme nette o labili, intensità o debolezze.

Gli stati d’animo che accompagnano questi momenti sono intensi, a 360 gradi: felicità e gioia quando percepisci che sei sulla buona strada, negli ok del cliente, nei suoi commenti positivi; disappunto quando il risultato non soddisfa, non gira, non prende quella forma che vorrei e il tutto viene rimesso in discussione.

I profumi, gli odori, le materie prime sono la mia energia, e la scambio nel miglior modo possibile, rendendo felice me stesso nel mio lavoro e le persone che incontro nel mio percorso. Queste molecole intangibili mi permettono di ampliare i miei confini ed il feedback continuo con chi ero (un chimico) e cosa sono diventato (un profumiere) rinsalda il tutto: ENERGIA
